POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist football team's home game against Butler on Saturday, Nov. 2 will be the Red Foxes' second annual #SetTheExpectation game.

#SetTheExpectation is a campaign that engages male athletes and their coaches as the solution to end sexual assault and physical violence. It is spearheaded by Brenda Tracy, who has traveled to college campuses nationwide to deliver her message, including Marist in the spring of 2017. The Red Foxes' participation in the campaign is led by Marist's Center for Student-Athlete Enhancement in partnership with Tracy. Sponors also include Marist's Title IX Office, Marist Dining Services, Marist's Chapter of It's On Us, and The Purple Thread.

The first #SetTheExpectation game at Marist took place on Oct. 20, 2018, when the Red Foxes' football team hosted Davidson.

There are several ways Saturday's #SetTheExpectation Game will be visible and able to be supported.

- Marist football players will wear teal and purple ribbons on their helmets.
- Coaches will wear #SetTheExpectation t-shirts.
- There will also be a community pledge for fans to sign.

- All donations for the event will benefit Grace Smith House, a private not-for-profit domestic violence agency which provides services to victims of domestic violence and their children.

- The Purple Thread will be selling bracelets and donating all proceeds to Grace Smith House.

The Marist Center for Student-Athlete Enhancement and football program have a shared history of supporting causes aimed at ending violence against women. In 2008, Marist football players Dan Smith and Al Ruiz were responsible for bringing the White Ribbon Campaign to campus, which is regarded as the largest worldwide movement aimed at ending violence against women. The event has continued for the past 11 years.
