POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist volleyball freshman libero
Sophia Theriot earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Libero of the Week honors for the third consecutive week, and fourth time this season, on Tuesday afternoon. The award was for her performance the week of October 29.
In addition to winning the same award the last three weeks, Theriot also won the same award the week of September 30. Â In total this year, Maris players have won seven MAAC weekly awards. Four have come from Theriot, all of which were Libero of the Week awards, and the other three have come from senior outside Hitter
Megan Fergus, all of which were Player of the Week Awards.
As the two-time reigning Libero of the Week, Theriot had another outstanding week helping to anchor the Red Fox defense. She helped lead Marist to a 1-1 weekend, including a tough loss to Rider and a 3-1 victory over Saint Peter's. Despite getting swept by Rider on Saturday, the Red Foxes took the Broncs to overtime in all three sets. If one point bounces differently in each set, it might've been Marist who had swept the match. Then, the Red Foxes dominated against Saint Peter's on Sunday, largely due to the stellar defense from Theriot. After dropping the first set, Marist bounced back and won the next three in very convincing fashion.
In the win over Saint Peter's, Theriot totaled 26 digs, and added seven assists. She had two service aces, and a perfect 1.000 serving percentage. She also had a perfect 1.000 reception percentage on 12 total attempts. In total for the week, she had 40 digs, 20 per match and 5.71 per set, to go along with 11 assists, two service aces, a .974 serve percentage, and a .955 reception percentage.
The Red Foxes have a one-match week this week, traveling to take on the Siena Saints on Friday, November 1. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
