POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist women's basketball team rolled to a 76-52 triumph over Albany in its home opener on Wednesday night at McCann Arena.
Marist improves to 2-0, while Albany stumbles to 1-2.

Grace Vander Weide contributed nine points, eight rebounds, and six assists.

- Vander Weide and Barcello combined for Marist's first nine points in the opening three minutes and 37 seconds, leading to a Great Dane timeout.
- Marist capped the first quarter on a 13-3 run to lead 24-9. The team went 11-17 from the field in the opening stanza.
- Barcello was the first to double figures after a left-wing trey ball to make it 29-12 in the second frame.
- Senior Hannah Hand's outlet pass to her sister led to a corner three with 2:28 left until halftime. Junior Allie Best swished a three of her own afterwards to make it 42-24 at the break.
- Albany outscored Marist 13-11 in the third quarter, but the Red Foxes hit their final three shots in the frame to maintain a 16-point edge heading into the fourth.
- The Red Foxes went on an extended 13-4 run to start the fourth to increase their lead to 25, the largest of the night. Redshirt junior Molly Smith stamped the outbreak with a three.
- Marist's final four baskets came via freshmen Trinasia Kennedy and Julianna Bonilla, the latter of whom beat the final buzzer on an 18-foot jumper.
- Eleven of the 13 Red Foxes that saw game action found the scoring sheet. Every player had a positive +/-.
- The Red Foxes never trailed in the contest.
- Vander Weide and junior Willow Duffell tied for the team lead with eight rebounds. Vander Weide's six helpers topped the squad.
- The Red Fox defense coaxed 16 Albany turnovers in the first half.
- Marist shot 53Â percent from the field (65 percent in the first two quarters) and 44 percent from beyond the arc. Albany was 38 and 27 percent in those categories, respectively.
- In specialty statistics, Marist had 34 points in the paint and 28 points off the bench.
- Alexi Schecter led the Great Danes with 17 points.
- With her first field at the 3:57 mark of the first quarter, Rebekah Hand moved into third place on Marist's all-time scoring list, passing Stacey Dengler. The senior captain now has 1,490 career points and 499 career field goals.
- Hannah Hand scored her first points since February 1, 2018 against Iona. She finished with seven points and went 3-3 from the field.
- Barcello finished just one point shy of her career-high. This was her fifth-career game in double figures.
- Vander Weide has registered at least nine points, six rebounds, and five assists in three of her last four games, dating back to the previous season.
- Marist improves to 5-1 all-time against Albany.
- Before the game, Head Coach Brian Giorgis and Gilmer were presented with commemorative basketballs, the former for his 400th career Marist win last Friday at Boston, and the latter for scoring her 1,000th career point in last season's MAAC Quarterfinal against Manhattan.
- Tommy Zurhellen served as the honorary guest coach on the Red Fox bench. At halfitme, he announced his plans for his next fundraising initiative: he will participate in 20 marathons across 20 different days over the summer of 2020.Â
