Marist Football Drops Double OT Contest To Jacksonville On Senior Day

Red Foxes Rack Up 527 Yards Of Total Offense

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist football team was defeated by Jacksonville, 52-45 in double overtime, at Tenney Stadium on Saturday on Senior Day.
 
Summary
  • Marist scored first on a one-yard touchdown run by Hunter Cobb just 5:16 into the contest.
  • Jacksonville then scored back-to-back touchdowns. Garnett Nicolas had a 75-yard scoring run on the first play from scrimmage after Cobb's score. Then, Caysaun Wakeley blocked a field goal that Moe Flournoy returned 88 yards for a touchdown.
  • At the 9:22 mark of the second quarter, Cobb's 80-yard touchdown run tied the game at 14.
  • Zachary Benwick's 26-yard field goal gave Jacksonville a 17-14 lead late in the second quarter, a lead the Dolphins took to the locker room.
  • With 10:56 left in the third quarter, Austin Day's 34-yard touchdown pass to Joe Petro gave Marist a 21-17 lead.
  • The Day-Petro touchdown was the first of scores on six straight drives for both teams. With 2:12 remaining, B.J. Riley five-yard touchdown gave Jacksonville a 38-35 advantage. Marist then drove to the Jacksonville 27. With no time left in regulation, Luke Paladino's field goal from 45 yards out hit the upright and crossbar and bounced over, which sent the game to overtime.
  • In the first overtime period, Day criss-crossed the field for a five-yard touchdown run on the first possession. But Calvin Turner Jr. answered with a six-yard scoring run, which tied the game at 45.
  • In the second overtime, Turner's 10-yard score gave Jacksonville a 52-45 lead. On Marist's next possession, the Red Foxes reached the one, but a fumble was recovered by Jacksonville's Kyree Woods to end the game.

  • There were 964 yards of total offense (527 for Marist, 437 for Jacksonville).
  • Cobb ran for 151 yards and three touchdowns.
  • Day threw for 310 yards and two touchdowns.

  • Day set a season high for passing yards. It was the second 300-yard passing game in his career.
  • The Red Foxes have now scored at least 30 points in three straight games.
  • This is the seventh straight year a Marist-Jacksonville game has been decided by seven points or less.
  • Jacksonville now leads the all-time series by a 7-4 count. The teams have met all 11 seasons Marist has been a member of the Pioneer Football League.
