Fergus Named First Team All-MAAC

Theriot and Murray Make All-MAAC Rookie Team

EDISON, New Jersey – Marist volleyball senior outside Hitter Megan Fergus was named to the 2019 All-MAAC First Team, the conference announced Thursday evening. In addition, the young freshman duo of Sophia Theriot and Gabby Murray were both named to the All-MAAC Rookie Team.

For Murray and Theriot, these are the first All-MAAC awards of their respective careers. For Fergus, this is the first team she has been named to the All-MAAC First Team. She had previously been named MAAC Rookie of the Year and made the All-MAAC Second Team and All-MAAC Rookie team in 2016.

In addition, Marist had 11 student-athletes selected to the MAAC Volleyball All-Academic Team Wednesday night. The Red Foxes led all schools in the MAAC in total selections, which is a great achievement. Iona, Quinnipiac, and Saint Peter's all came in second with nine selections. The list of the entire team can be found below.

NOTES
  • The last Red Fox to make the All-MAAC First team before tonight, was Fergus' fellow senior Nikki DeSerpa. She made the team in both 2018 and 2017.
  • The last Marist player prior to Theriot and Murray to be named to the All-Tookie team was Fergus back in 2016.
  • This is the first time in program history that Marist has had two players named to the All-MAAC Rookie Team in the same season.
  • Marist's 11 student's selected to the MAAC All-Academic Team was not only a program record, but it was also the most players name to the team any MAAC school has had since 2000.

  • She was named South Bay Battle MVP back on September 14, leading the Red Foxes to the tournament championship.
  • She tallied a 20 kill-20 dig game on September 28 against Saint Peter's, and was the first Marist player to do so since 2017.
  • She had a career-high 407 kills on the season, and also had a career-high 82 total blocks and career-high 195 digs.

SOPHIA THERIOT
  • Theriot was a four-time MAAC Libero of the week this season.
  • She totaled 38 digs back on Saturday, October 12 against Canisius which was tied for the second most digs in a match in program history.
