John Hurley of Marist men's swimming & diving has been named Pepsi Zero MAAC Student Athlete of the Week, it was announced Wednesday afternoon. He is the third Marist student-athlete to earn the award this year.
Hurley is a Breast/IM, and is one of the team captains. He is a Phychology/Special Education major here at Marist, from Stewart Manor, New York. He is a one-time member of the MAAC All-Academic Team, which was following last season.  
This year, he is continuing to dominate in the pool. Hurley's best meet of the season came on October 24 in Marist's second win of the season against Fordham. 
 He led the way for Marist with 19 total points, a meet-high for the men. He placed first in the 1000-yard free with a time of 9:49.98, and then later on won the 500-yard free with a time of 4:47.74.
Specifically this week, he was a contributor in Marist's 199-99 victory over MAAC rival Fairfield. He competed in the 200-yard medley relay, chipping in a 27.72 time in the 100-breast portion. He swam well in both the 100-yard breast and the 200-yard breast, with times of 1:02.55 and 2:13.89, respectively.Â
