Women's Basketball Visits Central Michigan

Marist Aims For Best Start In Division I History

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Beginning a stretch of games against some of the top mid-major programs in the country, Marist Women's Basketball vies for its first 6-0 start to a season in its Division I history when it faces Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant, MI on Saturday, November 30 at 1 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
  • Marist swept its portion of the inaugural MAAC/ASUN Challenge in Kissimmee, FL last weekend, defeating North Florida 69-54 and Lipscomb 74-63.
  • Senior Rebekah Hand paced the Red Foxes in scoring, averaging 20.5 points in both contests.
  • Redshirt senior Grace Vander Weide surpassed 300 career assists and notched her second-career double-double with 11 points and 11 dimes against the Bisons.
  • Marist continued to display an impressive defensive effort, holding both teams to under 40 percent shooting, under 26 percent from three-point range, and forcing a total of 37 turnovers.
 
SCOUTING THE CHIPPEWAS
  • Central Michigan is 2-3 on the season, but has two consecutive victories over Dayton and Northeastern.
  • In its season opener, the Chippewas fell to eventual Marist foe Green Bay, 111-105 in double overtime.
  • Four players average double figures, paced by Micaela Kelly's 20.6 points per game.
  • Kyra Bussell totals 16.2 points per game and eight rebounds per game on a 55.7 percent shooting clip.
  • Following this game, Central Michigan hosts MAAC foe Iona on Thursday, December 5.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • This will be the first all-time meeting between the Red Foxes and the Chippewas.
 
MAAC, MEET MAC
  • This is Marist's first tilt with a MAC opponent since the Red Foxes beat Bowling Green 74-60 in the Hall of Fame Challenge on November 22, 2013.
 
WEEKLY RANKINGS
  • Marist maintained its ninth ranking in this week's edition of the collegeinsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25 poll.
  • In Graham Hays' espnW mid-major top 10, the Red Foxes continue to hold the eighth spot. In the two previous releases of the list, Marist was ninth and eighth.
 
CONFERENCE LEADERS
  • Marist paces its conference counterparts in 11 categories, including scoring defense (59.8), scoring margin (14.4), field goal percentage (.472), FG% defense (.357), three-point percentage (.374), three-point defense (.294), three-pointers per game (8.6), free throw percentage (.800), rebounding defense (34.8), assist/turnover ratio (1.2), and assists per game (17.8).
  • Redshirt senior Alana Gilmer (.547) and Rebekah Hand (.516) lead the MAAC in field goal percentage.
  • Vander Weide is the conference trendsetter in free throw percentage (.941) and assists (27).
 
NATIONAL NOTORIETY
  • The Red Foxes are one of 24 teams in the nation with at least five wins and no losses.
  • Marist is 11th in Division I in free throw percentage and 28th in shooting percentage.

  • The Red and White finally returns to McCann Arena on Saturday, December 7 to battle Princeton at 7 p.m.
