POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Senior captain Rebekah Hand recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to move into second place on Marist's all-time scoring list, redshirt senior captain Grace Vander Weide totaled 20 points, a career-high 12 rebounds, and six assists, and Marist defeated Green Bay 72-60 on Sunday afternoon at McCann Arena.

The victory snaps the Red Foxes' modest two-game losing streak, giving them a 6-2 record. The Phoenix fall to 5-6.

At the 7:10 mark of the first quarter, Rebekah Hand sank two free throws to surpass Ursula Winter for second place. The Argyle, TX native now has 1,600 career points, and trails only Rachele Fitz (2,447 points).

Redshirt senior captain Alana Gilmer poured in 18 points, 14 of which came in the second half after she was tagged with two early fouls. She shot a team-best 67 percent (8-12) from the field, and drained six of Marist's nine points to seal the win.

Frankie Wurtz paced Green Bay with 16 points,, while Lyndsey Robson added 15 points in the full 40 minutes.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Gilmer ignited the offense with a pair of jumpers in the first 1:33 of the contest.
• The Red Foxes went on an extended 13-2 that carried into the second quarter, fueled by eight points from sophomore guard Sarah Barcello.
• Rebekah Hand capped the run on a wide-open layup off a feed from Vander Weide. The former tallied seven points and four boards in the second frame.
• Marist held Green Bay to one field goal in the final 5:45 of the first half to build a 35-22 lead at halftime.
• Vander Weide opened the third quarter with a three-pointer about six feet from beyond the arc.
• After both teams went quiet on offense for three minutes, both teams traded buckets, including a stepback triple from sophomore guard Kendall Krick to put Marist up 52-38 with 1:26 to play in the third.
• The Red Foxes scored 18 points in the fourth, all of which came from the tri-captains.
• Marist's largest lead came at the 5:55 mark of the stanza, when Vander Weide nailed a three to make it 63-44.

• The Red Foxes out-rebounded the Phoenix 40-35.
• Marist also had 10 second chance points, compared to just 2 for Green Bay.
• After shooting 39 percent in the first half, the Red Foxes responded with a 48 percent clip in the second.
• Marist led for 38:27 of 40 minutes in the ballgame.
• Nine Red Foxes were positive in plus-minus. Barcello led the team at +14, while Rebekah Hand and redshirt junior forward Molly Smith were +13.
• Marist's six turnovers in the affair were a season-low.

 

NOTES

• Rebekah Hand and Vander Weide are the first Marist duo to record double-doubles since the former and Gilmer accomplished the feat on December 28, 2017 against Rider.
• Marist wins the first all-time meeting between the two programs.
• This is the first time since the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons that the Red Foxes have won six non-conference games.
• Vander Weide reached 20 points for the second time in her career; the effort represents a season-high. Her previous rebounding career-best came on February 14, 2018 at Fairfield.
• Rebekah Hand reaches 10+ rebounds for the 14th time in her Red Fox tenure.
• In terms of double figures, Rebekah Hand reached that plateau for the 88th time, Gilmer the 57th, and Vander Weide the 25th.
• The Red Foxes are 5-0 this year when recording at least 18 assists.
• This is the second win over a team named the Phoenix this season; Marist defeated the Elon Phoenix at home on November 17.
