Rebekah Hand recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to move into second place on Marist's all-time scoring list, redshirt senior captain
Grace Vander Weide totaled 20 points, a career-high 12 rebounds, and six assists, and Marist defeated Green Bay 72-60 on Sunday afternoon at McCann Arena.
The victory snaps the Red Foxes' modest two-game losing streak, giving them a 6-2 record. The Phoenix fall to 5-6.
At the 7:10 mark of the first quarter,
Rebekah Hand sank two free throws to surpass Ursula Winter for second place. The Argyle, TX native now has 1,600 career points, and trails only Rachele Fitz (2,447 points).
Redshirt senior captain
Alana Gilmer poured in 18 points, 14 of which came in the second half after she was tagged with two early fouls. She shot a team-best 67 percent (8-12) from the field, and drained six of Marist's nine points to seal the win.
Frankie Wurtz paced Green Bay with 16 points,, while Lyndsey Robson added 15 points in the full 40 minutes.
- Gilmer ignited the offense with a pair of jumpers in the first 1:33 of the contest.
- The Red Foxes went on an extended 13-2 that carried into the second quarter, fueled by eight points from sophomore guard Sarah Barcello.
- Rebekah Hand capped the run on a wide-open layup off a feed from Vander Weide. The former tallied seven points and four boards in the second frame.
- Marist held Green Bay to one field goal in the final 5:45 of the first half to build a 35-22 lead at halftime.
- Vander Weide opened the third quarter with a three-pointer about six feet from beyond the arc.
- After both teams went quiet on offense for three minutes, both teams traded buckets, including a stepback triple from sophomore guard Kendall Krick to put Marist up 52-38 with 1:26 to play in the third.
- The Red Foxes scored 18 points in the fourth, all of which came from the tri-captains.
- Marist's largest lead came at the 5:55 mark of the stanza, when Vander Weide nailed a three to make it 63-44.
