Women’s Basketball Caps Non-Conference Play At UTA

Red Foxes And Mavericks Meet For First Time Ever

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist Women's Basketball says goodbye to the decade and to the non-conference side of its 2019-20 schedule with a trip to UT Arlington on Thursday, December 19 at 8 p.m. EST.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Red Foxes snapped its short two-game losing streak with a 72-60 victory over Green Bay on Sunday, December 15 at McCann Arena.
  • Rebekah Hand surpassed Ursula Winter for second place on Marist's all-time scoring list while securing her 12th-career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Grace Vander Weide led the squad with a season-best 20 points, career-high 12 rebounds, and six assists.
  • Alana Gilmer recorded 10 of her 18 points in the fourth quarter while converting eight of 12 shots.
 
SCOUTING THE MAVERICKS
  • UT Arlington comes into Thursday's tilt at 5-4, most recently suffering a 74-47 setback to Northwestern.
  • This year, UTA has a win over Kansas State, who was receiving votes at the time.
  • Marie Benson paces the team with 17.6 points per game, while Claire Chastain is the other Maverick averaging double figures at 10.3 points per contest.
  • UTA averages 64.4 points per game while shooting 42.9 percent as a unit.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Marist and UT Arlington have never faced each other prior to Thursday.
  • The Red Foxes have only played two other current members of the Sun Belt Conference: Coastal Carolina and Georgia Southern, though neither were in the Sun Belt when Marist battled them.
  • During Marist's run to the Sweet 16 in the 2007 NCAA Tournament, the Red and White defeated Middle Tennessee State, then a Sun Belt member, in the second round.
 
CONFERENCE RANKS
  • Entering Wednesday, December 18, Marist ranked in the top three in the MAAC across 11 categories.
  • The Red Foxes are first in scoring margin (+6.1), field goal percentage (.447), three-pointers made per game (7.4), assists per game (16.0), and assist/turnover ratio (1.2).
  • Individually, Vander Weide is first in the conference with a 54.0 field goal percentage, .952 free-throw percentage, and five assists per game.
  • Rebekah Hand is second in the MAAC with 18.4 points per game, third with a .909 free-throw percentage, and eighth with just under 34 minutes per game.
  • Gilmer's 52.1 field goal percentage is second to her classmate.
  • Allie Best has a 2.4 assist/turnover ratio that's second among her MAAC peers, and her 3.3 assists per game is sixth.
 
TEXAS-SIZED HOMECOMING
  • Thursday's game is a homecoming for seniors Hannah and Rebekah Hand, who grew up 40 minutes north of UTA in Argyle, TX.
SEVENTH HEAVEN
  • The Red Foxes are seeking to earn seven wins in non-conference play for the second-straight season.
  • The last time Marist went-back-to-back seasons accomplishing that was the 2009-10 and 2010-11 campaigns.
