WEST LONG BRANCH, New Jersey - The Marist men's basketball team (12-14 overall, 7-7 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) extended its winning streak to four with a 75-67 triumph over Monmouth (10-18, 9-6) at OceanFirst Bank Center on Sunday afternoon.
- Marist led wire-to-wire. The Red Foxes hit their first six shots from the field, and jumped out to a 15-7 lead at the first media timeout. Senior guard David Knudsen scored eight points in the game's first 3:05.
- A basket by senior guard Brian Parker at the 9:15 mark of the first half gave Marist its largest lead of the first half at 31-19.
- A basket by Monmouth's Deion Hammond with 41 seconds left in the first half brought the Hawks to within three. But senior forward Isaiah Lamb answered with a layup on the ensuing possession, and Marist took a 44-39 lead to the locker room.
- A 14-2 run in the first five minutes of the second half gave Marist its largest lead of the game, a 17-point advantage at 58-41.
- An 11-0 run by Monmouth brought the Hawks to within three at 67-64, and forced Marist to use its final timeout at the 5:38 mark.
- On Marist's first possession after the timeout, Lamb converted a three-point play to put the Red Foxes back up six. The Hawks drew no closer, and did not a score again until a three-pointer by George Papas on their final possession.
- Four Red Foxes scored in double digits: Parker, 15; freshman guard Darius Hines, 14; Lamb 12; senior forward Ryan Funk, 11.
- Parker and Lamb tied for the team lead with six rebounds.
- Hines had five assists against just one turnover.
- Lamb had the game's best individual plus-minus at +15.
- Marist shot .510 (26-for-51) from the field and .435 (10-for-23) from three-point range. The Red Foxes held Monmouth to .368 (25-for-68) shooting from the field and a .296 (8-for-27) mark from three-point range.
- Monmouth's Diago Quinn game highs in points (16) and rebounds (10).
- Marist has won four straight games for the first time since the 2014-15 season.
- Marist is .500 in MAAC play in February for the first time since the 2013-14 season.
- The Red Foxes are 9-0 this season when Hines scores in double figures.
- Marist is 7-1 this season when at least four Red Foxes score in double figures.
- This is the ninth time this season Marist has shot at least 50 percent from the field. The Red Foxes are 6-3 in these games.
- This is the seventh time this season Marist has held the opposition under 40 percent from the field. The Red Foxes are 7-0 in these games.
- In all 12 of its wins this season, Marist has had a better shooting percentage than its opponent.
