RICHMOND, Virginia - Marist baseball (4-10) was defeated 9-3 on day two of their pair at Virginia Commonwealth (13-3). The Rams got out to an early lead due to early errors, and though the Red Foxes earned a series of runs in the seventh, they were unable to complete the comeback.
- VCU scored three runs in the second with only one earned. Nick Cantone gave up just one hit in the inning.
- Cantone responded in the third by retiring the side in order.
- The Rams scored again in the fourth.
- VCU earned four runs in the fifth to jump out to an 8-0 lead.
- The Red Foxes found rhythm in the seventh, with the first four batters all hitting singles. Tyler Kapuscinski and Gene Napolitno earned RBI-singles, and Matt Rubayo was later walked with loaded bases to send Gregoire home.
- Conor McNamara took the mound in the bottom of the inning and retired the first three batters to put the Red Foxes back at the plate.
- VCU scored again the eighth to have a 9-3 advantage.
- Robbie Armitage and Matt Rubayo advanced to first and third in the ninth, but did not make it home to cut the deficit.
- Kapuscinski and Robbie Armitage both went 2-for-4 at the plate.
