Baseball Splits Doubleheader at North Carolina A&T

Reece Armitage Homers in Series-Opening Win

GREENSBORO, North Carolina – Marist baseball (5-11) split the twinbill with North Carolina A&T (10-8) on Saturday. The Red Foxes were in control for the entirety of game one, and nearly came back from five runs down in game two but ultimately dropped the contest.
 
GAME ONE SUMMARY
  • In the first inning, Frankie Gregoire started off the scoring for Marist with an RBI-single into left field to drive in Reece Armitage. Tyler Kapuscinski advanced to third on the throw.
  • Brian Hart then batted in Kapuscinski to put Marist up 2-0.
  • North Carolina A&T's Jason King answered back with a 2 RBI-single to tie the score in the second.
  • In the third, Robbie Armitage singled up the middle and advanced to second the throw while driving in Hart.
  • Following him, Gene Napolitano added to the scoring with a 2 RBI-single to send home Armitage and Rubayo.
  • Riding the momentum, Reece Armitage smashed his first home run of the season in the fourth to bring Marist's lead to 6-2.
  • Anthony Lazar and Kapuscinski tacked on an RBI each in the seventh and eighth to increase the deficit to 8-2.
  • The Aggies' Dustin Baber hit a 2 RBI-double in the eighth to cut Marist's lead to 8-4, but the Red Foxes did not allow any more runs.

GAME TWO SUMMARY
  • In the first inning, Reece Armitage stole second which gave Lazar the opportunity to steal home and put Marist on the board.
  • Gregoire hit a double moments later to drive in Armitage, and Marist led 2-0.
  • The Aggies answered back by scoring five runs in the second and two more in the third to lead 7-2.
  • The Red Foxes began fighting their way back, with RBI by Robbie Armitage, Niko Amory and Lazar in the fourth.
  • North Carolina A&T pulled away once again in the sixth with two more runs to put the score at 9-5.
  • In the seventh, Reece Armitage and Kapuscinski each capitalized on wild pitches to score.
  • Robbie Armitage batted in Brian Hart in the ninth to cut the Aggies' lead to 9-8.
  • Fletcher Szabo was nearly able to steal home and tie up the game, but was caught and North Carolina A&T escaped with the win.
