Baseball Routs Richmond in Series Opener

Red Foxes Have Superb Showing at the Plate

RICHMOND, Virginia - Marist baseball (7-12) defeated Richmond (11-6-1) in the series opener, 8-2. The Red Foxes had one of their best offensive performances of the season, propelled by home runs from Robbie Armitage and Randy Taveras.
 
SUMMARY
  • The Spiders scored in the bottom of the first to lead 1-0.
  • In the second, Robbie Armitage hit his first home run of the season, batting in Matt Rubayo to give the Red Foxes two runs.
  • Randy Taveras stole second later in the inning to let Anthony Lazar steal home and extend Marist's lead to 3-1.
  • Skyler Pichardo retired the first three Richmond batters to end the bottom of the inning early.
  • Robbie Armitage stole second and then advanced to third on a throwing error in the fourth, and then was batted in by Gene Napolitano to score once again.

  • Richmond loaded the bases in the ninth, but Ryan Cardona got the punch-out and earned the save in Marist's victory.
