Baseball Wins Series' Second Game at Richmond

Red Foxes Outdo Day One Performance Against Spiders

RICHMOND, Virginia - Marist baseball (8-12) was even better in the second game at Richmond (11-7-1), earning the win 11-1. The Red Foxes set the tone with five runs in the first inning on a pair of homers from Frankie Gregoire and Robbie Armitage.
 
SUMMARY
  • Frankie Gregoire blasted a three-run homer to start the first inning, scoring Anthony Lazar and Reece Armitage.
  • Robbie Armitage then hit a two-run homer of his own in the first to give Marist a 5-0 lead. Matt Rubayo was driven home.
  • Tony Romanelli proceeded to retire Richmond's first three batters to cap off Marist's strongest inning of the season.
  • Anthony Lazar hit a double, stole third and then reached home in the second to score his second run of the day.
  • The Spiders scored a run in the bottom of the second to cut Marist's lead to 6-1.
  • Niko Amory hit a 2-RBI double in the sixth to spark a five-run inning for the Red Foxes. Amory then scored on a bunt from Reece Armitage.
  • Randy Taveras singled to score Armitage, and then later reached home on a wild pitch to propel Marist to an 11-1 advantage.
  • Zane Kmietek took the mound for two innings of relief, and Nick Cantone followed him up with three straight outs in the ninth to close the game.
