UC Davis Takes Two From Marist Softball

Red Foxes Conclude Spring Break Road Trip

DAVIS, California – The Marist softball team was swept in a doubleheader at UC Davis on Saturday. The Aggies prevailed by scores of 4-0 and 3-0.
 
Game One - UC Davis 4, Marist 0
  • Isabella Leon scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first. Leon led off with a walk, and came home on a play which trail runner Alyse Rojas was thrown out trying to steal second.
  • In the fourth, Rojas scored an infield single by Marisa Given.
  • UC Davis extended its lead to 3-0 in the fifth on Megan Bower's RBI double.
  • Riley Siegel scored on a wild pitch in the sixth for the game's final run.
  • Katie Kibby pitched a one-hitter for UC Davis with five strikeouts.
  • Senior Brandi Coon had the Red Foxes' lone hit.
  • Freshman Calista Phippen pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts.
 
Game Two - UC Davis 3, Marist 0
  • Bower scored the game's first run in the bottom of the third on a throwing error.
  • The Aggies added two runs in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Autumn Miller and an RBI double off the bat of Leon.
  • Marist brought the potential tying run to the plate in the seventh, but was unable to capitalize.
  • Senior Kallen Leeseberg pitched a complete for the Red Foxes. Leeseberg allowed just four hits and struck out four. All three of the runs she allowed were unearned.
  • Brooke Yanez pitched a three-hitter for UC Davis with 12 strikeouts.
  • Both teams left six runners on base.
 
Records
  • Marist is 11-14. The Red Foxes went 6-8 on their West Coast road trip over the past nine days, with three of the losses coming to UC Davis.
  • UC Davis is 24-5. The Aggies now have five straight shutouts.

  • Marist's next games will be the Red Foxes' first in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play, and first at Gartland Field.
  • The Red Foxes will host Fairfield on Saturday, March 30 and Iona on Sunday, March 31. There will be doubleheaders on both days, with first pitch of game one scheduled for noon on Saturday and Sunday.
