LOWELL, Massachusetts - Marist baseball (9-13) was unable to match UMass Lowell (5-17) as their offensive outpouring in the third inning allowed them to win 10-4. The Red Foxes were able to score runs later in the game, but could not overcome the early lead built by the Riverhawks.
- The Riverhawks took the early 1-0 lead in the second inning.
- In the top of the third, Randy Taveras singled through left-center to drive in Niko Amory and tie the game.
- Later in the inning, Frankie Gregoire's sac-fly allowed Reece Armitage to reach home and give Marist a 2-1 lead.
- The Riverhawks got hot in the bottom of the third to score five runs.
- UMass Lowell tacked on another run in the fifth to lead 7-2.
- Gregoire reached home on an error in the sixth to trim the deficit.
- The Riverhawks scored three runs in the seventh and eighth to earn a 10-3 lead.
- Niko Amory drove in Nick Cantone for an RBI-single in the ninth, but Marist was unable to put any more runs on the board.
- Randy Taveras, Frankie Gregoire and Niko Amory all collected an RBI for the Red Foxes.
- Taveras and Amory each went 2-for-4 at the plate.
- Marist was 4-for-4 on steal attempts, and is now up to 40 stolen bases on the season.
- Seven Red Fox pitchers saw the mound, but Trevor Backman received the loss.
Marist begins the MAAC season with a three-game series at Fairfield (9-12, 2-1 MAAC) on March 30-31. The Red Foxes will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon, and then come back on Sunday for a noon finale.
