Women's Lacrosse Falls Short of Beating Monmouth

Monmouth Used Several Scoring Runs to Win the Game

WEST LONG BRANCH, New Jersey – Marist women's lacrosse dropped a contest to Monmouth 15-12 Saturday afternoon. Good chunks of the game were close but Monmouth used several runs to take the win. Marist now sits at 4-7 and 1-2 in conference play.
 
SUMMARY
  • Within the first minute and a half, Monmouth scored to take a lead. Goals from Hailey Wagner, Samantha Mehalick and Jessica Lasaponara put Marist up 3-1. Monmouth used a 3-0 run to reclaim the lead, but a goal from Devon Connolly equalized it at 5-5.
  • The Hawks scored four unanswered points at the end of the half, including two within the last minute.
  • Needing a comeback, Marist scored two goals within the first two minutes. Monmouth would score another two to go up by two again.
  • After a goal from Monmouth with 18:34 left in the game, both teams played tight defense. Delaney Galvin made several clutch shots to keep Marist in the game.
  • Monmouth scored two goals seconds apart to take a 14-9 lead with less than five minutes left in the game to put the game out of reach for Marist.

  • Mehalick had five goals while Wagner added four.
  • Galvin finished the day with 11 saves.
  • Marist went 5-of-7 on free position shots.
  • The Red Foxes had 39 fouls during the game.
