Women's Lacrosse Falls on the Road to UMass

The Red Foxes Struggled to Stop the High Power Offense

AMHERST, Massachusetts – Marist women's lacrosse fell to UMass 18-8 Wednesday afternoon at Garber Field. The Red Foxes did not have an answer to one of the top offenses in the nation. With the loss, Marist drops to 2-3 on the season.
 
SUMMARY
  • UMass raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first five minutes of game play. Romy Villemure got the Red Foxes on the board with a free position goal.
  • After both teams exchanged goals, UMass used a 9-0 run to take command of the half and close it out 14-3.
  • Samantha Mehalick opened up the half with back-to-back goals to cut the score to 14-5. UMass responded with two goals of its own to claim an 11 point lead with 17:17 left in the game. The Minutewomen were able to utilize a running clock the rest of the way to seal the win.
STATS
  • Mehalick led the offense with four goals. She was a perfect 4-for-4 on shots for the day.
  • Annie Sheehy had four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
  • UMass dominated the draw circle, winning 20 of 27.
  • Kiley Anderson scored five goals for UMass.

The Red Foxes return home to face La Salle at Tenney Stadium on Saturday, March 9 at 1 pm.
