Men's Tennis Splits Day One of Yale Invite

Marist Earns a Good Win Over MAAC Foe Fairfield But Falls to Yale

NEW HAVEN, New York – Marist men's tennis opened the Yale Invitational with a 4-0 win against Fairfield and a 0-4 loss to Yale. The Red Foxes sit at 3-4 on the season. Marist will wrap up the competition tomorrow when it faces NJIT at 9 AM.

VS Fairfield
Marist was outstanding against Fairfield in a match that will go on the record as a nonconference match. The match was a great benchmark to where the Red Foxes stand in conference play with only two weeks left until the first MAAC game. Fairfield was picked to finish fourth, just one spot behing Marist, in the preseason poll.

The Red Foxes started the match with success in doubles. Lars Schouten and Max Darrington took down Magid and Rodgers 6-4 in the second doubles spot. Carlos Moreno and Jack Sequerth cruised to a 6-2 win against Caputo and Palizek in the third doubles spot.

Schouten, John Oxner and Kian Yazdi picked up the singles wins to seal the victory for the Red Foxes. Despite dropping the first set, Schouten came back to pick up a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 win against Edwards in the first singles spot.

" The team played with a great deal of intensity this morning." Lauded Director of Tennis Operations Gary Sussman. "We have several players who are out, and a number of the guys played out of position, but they were focused and ready to play.  Special kudos to the two freshman, Jack Sequerth and Kian Yazdi.  Jack and Carlos played a spirited match at third doubles, which set the tone for us to capture the doubles point, and Kian, playing at 5, posted a convincing singles win.  It was a great team effort, with contributions from all seven players."
