Baseball Stuns the Stags in Series Finale

Frankie Gregoire Smashes Grand Slam in Dominant Win

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist baseball (10-15, 1-2 MAAC) earned their tenth win of the season and first MAAC victory with a dominating performance at Fairfield (11-13, 4-2 MAAC). The Red Fox offense was sparked by a grand slam from Frankie Gregoire in the third inning, and Alex Pansini tossed a strong seven innings to stifle the Stags' opportunities and earn the 11-2 win.
 
SUMMARY
  • Alex Pansini opened the game with a 1-2-3 inning to set the tone for the game.
  • Frankie Gregoire blasted a grand slam past left field to give Marist a 4-0 lead in the third. Tyler Kapuscinski, Niko Amory and Brian Hart all scored.
  • The Stags got on the board in the fourth with an RBI-single from Dan Ryan.
  • In the top of the fifth, Kapuscinski singled to right field to drive in Randy Taveras and lift Marist to 5-1.
  • Robbie Armitage then knocked an RBI-single to right field to score Kapuscinski.
  • Hart rode the momentum for a big 2-RBI single to send home Armitage and Gregoire.
  • Amory hit a sac-fly to score Reece Armitage and advance Hart to third, who then reached on a passed ball to give Marist a 10-1 lead.
  • Pansini capped off the fifth by retiring three-straight batters for his second inning of the day.
  • Robbie Armitage grounded out in the sixth but allowed Kapuscinski to reach home once again for the RBI.
  • The Stags scored on a sac-fly in the eighth.
  • Nick Cantone closed out the game on the mound with 1.2 innings of relief and no hits.
KEY STATS
  • Gregoire's grand slam was the team's first since Tyler Kapuscinski's against Siena during the 2018 MAAC Championships. It was the 29th home run of Gregoire's career, and his fifth this season. He now leads the team with 23 RBIs.
  • Alex Pansini started and pitched 7.1 innings with three strikeouts, allowing six hits and two runs.
  • Kapuscinski was perfect at the plate with two hits, two walks, an RBI and three runs scored.
  • Every Marist hitter reached base at least once.
UP NEXT
  • Marist returns to Poughkeepsie for their home opener against Albany (9-13, 2-4 America East) tomorrow at 3 p.m. Most recently the Great Danes went 1-2 in the series with Binghamton this past weekend.
