WEST HARTFORD, Connecticut – Marist baseball (13-17, 4-2 MAAC) was defeated by reigning America East champions Hartford (12-16, 6-3 America East) by a score of 8-3 on Wednesday evening. The Hawks scored five runs in the fifth inning to take a big lead, and the Red Foxes were unable to match them and extend the game.
- Frankie Gregoire started things off with a solo homer in the top of the second.
- Hartford answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.
- Gregoire doubled in the fourth, and was then driven home by Reece Armitage to take back a 2-1 advantage for the Red Foxes.
- The Hawks capitalized on some opportunities in the fifth to jump out to a 6-2 lead.
- Anthony Lazar hit a big triple in the seventh to drive in Gene Napolitano and score.
- Hartford's Ashton Bardzell hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning to move the Hawks to 8-2.
- The Red Foxes were unable to answer in the final two innings and Hartford took the game.
- Frankie Gregoire went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and an RBI. He is now tied for the most homers in the MAAC with seven.
- Reece Armitage went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a walk.
- Zane Kmietek made his third start of the season and tossed 3.1 innings with three hits and one unearned run. He retired the side in two of his innings.
Marist returns home for a three-game series with current MAAC leaders Canisius (14-17, 7-2 MAAC) on April 13-14. The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon, and a single on Sunday also at noon.
