POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Marist baseball (14-18, 5-3 MAAC) won one and lost one against MAAC-leaders Canisius (15-18, 8-3 MAAC) in the series-opening twinbill. The Golden Griffins limited Marist to just six hits to take game one, but the Red Foxes came back in game two and scored six runs in the first two innings.

- Canisius earned RBIs in the third and fourth innings, and scored a two-run homer in the sixth to go up 4-0.
- Frankie Gregoire answered back with a two-run homer of his own to drive in Randy Taveras in the bottom of the inning.
- Zane Kmietek entered in the sixth and only gave up two hits for the rest of the game.
- The Red Foxes advanced men to base in the seventh and ninth but were unable to take back the lead.
- Gregoire's homer was his eighth of the season and 32nd of his career. He has hit the ball out of the park in four of the last eight games.
- Zane Kmietek threw 3.2 innings and allowed two hits while striking out four.
- Marist set a statement early, with the first four batters all reaching base. Robbie Armitage hit an RBI-single and his brother Reece followed him up with a 2-RBI single to give the Red Foxes a 3-0 first-inning lead.
- Anthony Lazar and Tyler Kapuscinski each singled in the second, and Robbie Armitage stayed hot with a three-run homer to propel Marist to a 6-0 advantage.
- The Golden Griffins tallied three runs in the third to cut the Red Foxes' lead in half.
- In the bottom of the fifth, Reece Armitage hit a single and advanced to second on an error while Gregoire capitalized on the opportunity to reach home.
- Matt Rubayo bunted to advance Reece to third, and he then closed the distance on a passed ball to propel Marist to an 8-3 lead.
- Tony Romanelli retired the side in the sixth and seventh innings to earn the Red Fox victory.
- Romanelli pitched the entire seven innings, scattered six hits and gave up only one earned run. He struck out seven and walked just two batters.Â
- Robbie Armitage was stellar at the plate, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs, two runs scored and the home run.
- Reece Armitage was impressive as well, with two hits in three at-bats, two RBIs and one run scored.
- Marist recorded 14 hits and held Canisius to six.
Marist and Canisius return tomorrow at 11 a.m. for the series finale.
