Softball Falls to Monmouth in MAAC Championship

The Hawks Held Marist's Bats at Bay in the Final Game

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist softball fell to Monmouth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Championship Final 6-1 at Gartland Field.
 
SUMMARY
  • Both teams were scoreless throughout the first two innings. Megan Beiermeister had four strikeouts throughout the first two innings.
  • Monmouth got on the board first with a solo home run to left center from Jasmine Higa at the top of the third inning.
  • Deangie Jimenez hit a single into left field to advance two runners home and extend the score for Monmouth to 3-0 in the fourth.
  • A second solo home run in the fifth extended the lead to 4-0 for the Hawks. Kaleen Leesberg came into the game in relief and pitched Marist out of the fifth.
  • Hailee Jantorno scored Marist's first run of the game, scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth.
  • Monmouth added two more runs to close out the seventh inning.
STATS
  • Beiermeister finished the game with seven strikeouts and two earned runs.
  • Monmouth held Marist to two hits. Tournament MVP Alyssa Irons had five strikeouts against the Red Foxes.
  • Marist left six runners on base.
NOTES
  • Oberdorf, Kaley Coltrain, and Morgan Gianelle were named to the MAAC All-Tournament Team.
  • Jantorno earned her first start in the tournament, going 1-for-2. She was the lone Red Fox to reach safely twice.
  • This was Marist's seventh appearance in the championship game in program history. The Red Foxes are now 3-4 in the final.
