INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - Seven Marist programs -Â men's tennis, volleyball, women's basketball, women's cross country, women's soccer, women's tennis, and women's track and field -Â were publicly recognized for their placement in the top 10 percent of their respective sports in the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) report, the NCAA announced this week.
The latest announcement bases scores from the completed 2017-2018 academic year.
According to the NCAA, the APR scores for every Division I program will be released on Wednesday, May 8.
Since the 2004-2005 academic year, according to the
NCAA APR Public Recognition database, 71 Marist programs have scored inside the top 10 percent of their respective sports. The seven teams this year is an improvement over the five that were recognized last year.
Each of the sports that achieved the mark in the latest report have garnered recognition in past years:
- Men's Tennis earns its second APR recognition all-time and its first since 2004-05.
- Volleyball has achieved this result for an eighth consecutive year.
- Women's Basketball makes the list for the first time since 2012-13 and the fourth time overall.
- Women's Cross Country is now a 10-time standout in the APR rankings, placing inside the top 10 percent for three straight years.
- Women's Soccer collects its third consecutive honor and fifth in program history.
- Women's Tennis has been recognized for three straight years.
- Women's Track and Field has been recognized as a single team (combining both indoor and outdoor seasons) for three-straight years. Before this process was enacted four years ago, the indoor and outdoor programs gained singular praise seven times each.
The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams. The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention of each student-athlete on scholarship every semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the ongoing academic performance for each team in every sport.Â
