LEXINGTON, Kentucky – Marist Volleyball has earned an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2018-19 academic year, the organization announced on Monday afternoon.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

Marist picks up the honor for the 13
th consecutive season, which is tied for the sixth-longest streak in NCAA Division I volleyball. The Red Foxes were one of four MAAC schools to earn recognition for the previous year. Their 13 total awards are the most for a MAAC program.

Overall, 1,125 teams earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2018-19 season, smashing last year's record of 977. In NCAA Division I, 189 women's programs earned the distinction.
Marist opens its season in Buffalo, NY against Alabama in the UB Invite on Friday, August 30 at 10:00 am. The home opener is slated for Friday, September 20 at 7:00 pm vs. Fairfield.
