POUGHKEPSIE, New York – The Marist volleyball team participated in a scavenger hunt on Wednesday afternoon, as part of a team building exercise.
The team was divided into four groups of four, and they were each given a list of objectives they needed to complete. The teams were as follows:
- Team 1- Megan Fergus, Courtney Kasperski, Skylar Harrison, & Gabby Murray
- Team 2- Nikki DeSerpa, Jocelyn Gorman, Ashley Cruise, & Victoria Perini
- Team 3- Stephanie Stone, McKinley Fox, Madelyn Waumans, & Sophia Theriot
- Team 4- Sarah Austin, Chidera Udeh, Morgan Owens, & Halle Carter
The teams were given the following list, and were tasked with making a video compilation of themselves completing the objectives, or at what (in their opinions) qualifies as a certain place:
- Can you get a video of your group firing up fans to come to matches in 2019?
- Can you get a video of your group playing another sport with a coach/team on campus?
- Can you get a video of a groundhog?
- Can your group get faculty/staff to sing the Marist Fight Song?
- Can you get someone to play volleyball with you and your group?
- Where is the best place to eat on/around campus that is a must go for volleyball players?
- What is the quietest place on campus?
- What is your favorite place on campus to socialize?
- What is your favorite place on campus to study?
- Where is the prettiest place on campus?
- What is a hidden gem on campus?
- What is the worst place to walk to-and-from in the rain?
The judges of the competition were Head Coach
Sean Byron, Assistant Coach
Kelsey Lahey, and Assistant Coach
Paul Vink-Lainas. They judged based on whether the teams were able to complete all of the objectives, and also took into account creativity and humor. The three coaches each voted for the video they liked best, based on this criteria.
Team one, consisting of Fergus, Kasperski, Harrison, and Murray, was announced as the winner of the competition, prevailing in a 2-1 vote. All four teams did an incredible job, and you can see the highlights of each team's work in the video above.
Marist opens its 2019 schedule on Friday, August 30. The Red Foxes will take on the University of Alabama in the first game of the University of Buffalo Invite. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
