HOLMDEL, New Jersey – The men and women of Marist cross country are back in action this Saturday at the Henry Mercer Monmouth Invitational. The race will take place at Holmdel Park, and will serve as a preview for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships in November.
- The men finished third overall at the Siena Invitational, earning strong results with a group of underclassmen runners.
- Freshman Ramsey Little was the top Marist competitor with a sixth place finish in the 8k. He ran a personal best of 26:26.6.
- Brendan Dearie (eighth), Matthew Hartman (12th), Dominic Mastromatteo (14th) and Aidan Sweeney (19th) rounded out the scoring group for the Red Foxes, running multiple personal bests.
- Last year's race featured talented teams such as Wagner, St. Francis (NY) and LIU Brooklyn.
- Monmouth swept both events in 2018, and the men come into the meet ranked at 13th in the Northeast.
- Earlier this week, the women earned their best-ever USTFCCCA Regional Ranking at 10th in the Northeast.
- In two meets, the men have placed at least two runners in the top ten of the competition. Freshman Brendan Dearie finished ninth in both races.
- The ladies have placed at least five runners in the top ten of their two meets so far. Gianna Tedeschi and Alexandra Bartolotta have finished in the top three at both contests.
The Marist cross country squads prepare for the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh on October 5. This is the largest meet in the country annually, with over 40 teams in attendance.
