Women’s Basketball Ends Buffalo Trip At Niagara

Red Foxes Seek First 4-0 MAAC Start In Six Seasons

BUFFALO, New York – Marist Women's Basketball closes out its first MAAC road swing of the 2019-20 campaign with Niagara on Saturday, January 11 at 1 p.m. The Red and White aims to increase its winning streak to six games, and move to a 4-0 start in conference play for the first time since the 2013-14 season.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Red Foxes improved to 3-0 in the MAAC with an emphatic 90-59 win, its largest margin of victory this year, at Canisius on Thursday, January 9.
  • As a team, Marist shot 54.7 percent, including a season-best 52 percent from three, while picking up 28 assists, its most since the team had 29 vs. Quinnipiac on February 14, 2014.
  • Alana Gilmer led the Red Foxes with 24 points on 10-16 shooting, moving into ninth place in all-time Marist baskets in the process.
  • Rebekah Hand (18 points, 10 rebounds) and Grace Vander Weide (13 points, 10 assists) each recorded double-doubles.
SCOUTING NIAGARA
  • The Purple Eagles are 1-2 in conference play and 3-9 overall. Their lone win in the MAAC came on Thursday at Siena, 68-61 in overtime.
  • MAAC opponents are shooting just 29.6 percent against Niagara.
  • The Purple Eagles also average 41.3 rebounds vs. conference foes.
  • Preseason All-MAAC First Team selection Jai Moore is ninth in the MAAC with 14.3 points per game. Maggie McIntyre is second on the team at 10.7 points per game.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday marks the 49th meeting between the two sides.
  • Marist is 33-15 all-time against Niagara.
  • Last season, the Red Foxes picked up 87-58 and 82-69 victories over the Purple Eagles, their highest scoring output against a MAAC opponent in the 2018-19 regular season.
  • Rebekah Hand averages 17.6 points per game vs. Niagara. She scored 41 points across the two games last year.
