Women’s Basketball Travels To Manhattan

Each Team Boasts Four Wins In MAAC Play

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist Women's Basketball looks to bounce back with a brief road trip down to Manhattan on Saturday, January 18 at 2 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
  • Marist dropped a 76-72 overtime thriller to Rider on Thursday evening in a matchup featured the top teams in the record in the MAAC and two top 15 teams in the collegeinsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll.
  • Alana Gilmer led four Red Foxes in double figures with 21 points.
  • Grace Vander Weide added 16 points, eight rebounds, and a team-best eight assists.

  • The Jaspers sit right behind the Red Foxes in the standings with a 4-2 MAAC record. Overall, the team is 7-8.
  • On Thursday, Manhattan disposed of Siena 80-50 in Loudonville, NY.
  • Freshman Emily LaPointe, who has won four MAAC Rookie of the Week awards this season, paces the squad with 11.7 points per game.
  • Courtney Warley averages 100.5 points per contest and 7.8 rebounds per game.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday marks the 59th meeting all-time between the Red Foxes and the Jaspers.
  • Marist is 34-24 against Manhattan in its Division I era.
  • The Jaspers are one of three teams in the MAAC (Siena, Monmouth) that the Red and White played in its first season as a Division I program in 1981-82.
  • Last year, each team was victorious on the road in the regular season. However, Marist triumphed in the 2019 MAAC Quarterfinals 65-51 over Manhattan.
 
ALL CLASS
  • Gilmer and Rebekah Hand were recently identified as candidates for the 2019-20 Senior CLASS Award.
  • The Senior CLASS Award recognizes student-athletes around the nation who exemplify characteristics in four categories: classroom, character, community, and competition.
  • Thirty women's basketball players were selected. The finalists will trim down to 10 in February.

  • Marist and Manhattan's rematch takes place on Saturday, February 8 in the annual Play4Kay Night.
