Women's Basketball Looks For Niagara Sweep

Marist Hosts National Girls And Women In Sports Day

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist Women's Basketball opens the month of February with Niagara on Saturday, February 1 at 7 p.m.
 
WHAT'S AT McCANN
  • Marist will celebrate National Girls and Women In Sports Day.
  • In partnership with the Sports Bra Project, the department invites fans to donate new sports bras in an effort to eliminate barriers in sports participation.
  • The department will also honor the women's rowing 2019 MAAC Championship team and present the team with their championship rings.
  • The Junior Hoop Club Pizza Party takes place after the game.

  • Saturday's game airs on ESPN3, beginning at the top of the hour. Geoff Brault and Steve Eggink have the call.

LAST TIME OUT
  • In a matchup featuring the top scoring offense in Marist versus the best scoring defense in Fairfield, the Stags clipped the Red Foxes 52-48 on January 30 in Connecticut.
  • Marist led 25-10 at one point, but the Stags came back in the third quarter, then held Marist without a field in the first 6:22 of the fourth. The Red and White got as close as 49-47 before Fairfield pulled away.
  • Rebekah Hand led Marist with 18 points on 8-14 shooting. She eclipsed her 600th career field goal and 700th career rebound in the process.
 
SCOUTING NIAGARA
  • The Purple Eagles sit in sixth place in the MAAC with a 5-5 record, and are 7-12 overall.
  • On Thursday, Niagara fell to Siena on the road, 59-54.
  • Jai Moore is Niagara's only scorer in doubles figures with 16.3 points per game.
 
WE MEET AGAIN
  • The Red Foxes and Purple Eagles square off for the second time this season.
  • Marist utilized a 24-0 run at the start of the game to record a 94-67 win up in Niagara Falls back on January 11.
  • Alana Gilmer scored 18 points on a perfect 9-9 field goal percentage, establishing a single-game program record for field goal percentage (minimum eight baskets made).
  • The Red and White tallied 28 assists on 40 buckets.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Thanks to last month's victory, Marist is now 34-15 all-time against Niagara.
  • Last time in Poughkeepsie, Lovisa Henningsdottir and Rebekah Hand scored 24 and 20 points, respectively, in an 82-69 triumph on March 2, 2019.
