POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Senior
Murray Coueslant of the Marist men's swimming & diving team was honored as Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday afternoon.
The butterfly and freestyle specialist from Aberdeen, Scotland is Marist's Student Athlete Advisory Committee President this year, and has been involved with SAAC as a representative for swimming & diving for the last three years.
The senior computer science major, has had a ton of success both in the pool, as well as in the classroom. Coueslant worked hard on his studies, and has been named to the Marist College Dean's List in all four of his previous semesters. He was also a member of the MAAC All-Academic Team each of the last two years.
One of the highest honors of his career was being selected to attend the NCAA Leadership Forum in 2019. The Leadership Forum, created in 1997, has been a life-changing experience for more than 5,000 student-athletes, many who have grown personally and professionally, gained a new network of peers and friends, as well as felt the rewards and importance of community service.
Coueslant was named a captain for the swimming & diving program for the 2020-21 season, which was rightfully earned after a very successful first three years with the program. He has had some very impressive performances in Buffalo at the MAAC Championships, including a seventh-place finish in the 200-yard fly in 2020, a fifth-place finish in the 1650-yard free in 2020, and second in the 200-yard fly in 2018. He was also a part of the 800-yard free relay team that won the silver medal in 2020. He also still holds a school record, clocking in at 1:49.08 in the 200-yard fly in 2018, which has yet to be broken.
