Women’s Basketball Takes On UAlbany On Tuesday

Marist Is 5-1 Against Great Danes In Program History

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Taking a one-game break from MAAC action, Marist Women's Basketball welcomes UAlbany to McCann Arena in a non-conference battle on Tuesday, December 15th at 2 p.m.

  • Marist picked up two MAAC wins over Canisius last weekend, beating the Golden Griffins 64-44 and 82-61 on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
  • Junior guard Sarah Barcello led the team with a pair of 18-point efforts, a career-high.
  • Senior captain Willow Duffell recorded her third-career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in Saturday's matchup, and had 21 total boards in the series.
  • Junior guard Kendall Krick (11 points on Saturday) and freshman forwards Caitlin Weimar (17 points on Friday) Zaria Demember-Shazer (12 points on Saturday) each reached double figures as well.

  • For the second week in a row, Weimar was selected as the MAAC Rookie of the Week, this time for the week of December 14th.
  • The Cortlandt Manor, NY native averaged 12 points and six rebounds per game while going 10-of-14 from the field in the two wins over Canisius.

  • Marist shot 55.7% from the field in the season opening win at Army, including 72.4% (21-of-29) in the second half.
  • Marist has two games this season shooting better than 50 percent. Last year, the team was 15-0 when hitting half or more of its shots.
  • In recent memory, Marist shot 79.2% (19-of-24) in the first half of a 103-66 victory over Northeastern on December 18th, 2013.

  • Aside from the freshmen class, multiple Red Foxes have tied or set career-highs in points, field goals, rebounds, and assists through the first three games of the season. Among them include:
    • Trinasia Kennedy: 14 points (10 prior), six field goals (four prior), four rebounds (two prior), three assists

best dishes
  • Senior captain Allie Best knocked down two threes and dished out a team-best four assists in wins over Army and Canisius. She has led the Red Foxes in assists in every game so far.
  • Entering Tuesday, she has 13 assists to zero turnovers, and is the only starting point guard under Head Coach Brian Giorgis to not register a turnover in the first three games of a season.
  • The Red Foxes have won eight straight when Best has five or more assists.

  • Helene Haegerstrand scored a team-high 26 points in the victory over the Pirates.
  • Ellen Hahne has posted a double-double in each game so far, averaging 16 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Last year, the Great Danes went 9-21, with a 5-11 record in the America East.

  • Marist and UAlbany are meeting for the seventh time ever.
