Women's Basketball Meets Canisius For Second Time

Red Foxes Beat Golden Griffins By 31 In First Matchup

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Fresh off its win at Rider to move into first place in the MAAC, Marist Women's Basketball returns to the Queen City to host Canisius on Thursday, January 13 at 7 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Red Foxes were victorious over Rider on February 11 as they beat the Broncs 63-58.
  • Rebekah Hand had 20 points last night, 10 of which were from the free throw line.
  • The Broncs trailed by two points in the fourth quarter as they were able to cut the score down to 57-55, but Grace Vander Weide made four foul shots in a row to gain a six-point lead.
  • The conference win bumped the Red Foxes conference record to 11-2.
 
WE MEET AGAIN
  • The Red Foxes beat the Golden Griffins 90-59 earlier this season on Jan. 9 at Canisius. It was the largest margin of victory this year for the Red and White.
  • Alana Gilmer lead the team with 24 points, while Rebekah Hand (18 points, 10 rebounds) and Vander Weide (13 points, 10 assists) both added double-doubles.
  • The Red Foxes shot 54.7 percent from the field and 52 percent from beyond the arc.
 
SCOUTING CANISIUS
  • The Golden Griffins are 3-18 overall and 2-10 in the MAAC.
  • Forward Danielle Sanderlin led Canisius in its 70-63 win against Fairfield with 20 points, going 9-16 from the field, and seven rebounds.
  • Guard D'Jhai Patterson-Ricks went 5-11 from the field (4-7 from beyond the arc) for 19 points.
  • Forward AJ Timbers had an additional 17 points for her own against Fairfield.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Marist leads Canisius 39-14 in the all-time series, dating back to 1986.
  • The Red Foxes have not lost to Canisius since 2016, a winning streak of eight games.
  • At McCann Arena, Marist is 17-7 against the Golden Griffins.
