WEST POINT, New York – The Marist women's lacrosse team suffered a 16-4 loss to Army West Point on Wednesday evening. The Red Foxes kept it close in the first half, but the Black Knights used an extended 8-0 run throughout the entire second half to secure the victory.
Marist is now 0-2 overall on the season, while Army improves to 1-0 on the year.
- The Black Knights got off to a quick start, scoring two goals less than two minutes into the game.
- Both teams went scoreless for the next ten minutes of game action, until Army broke the drought with a goal from Caroline Raymond to take a 3-0 lead.
- The Red Foxes answered with two consecutive goals less than a minute later, first from Samantha Mehalick from the free position and then from Jana Rothman on the man-up.
- Delaney Galvin made back-to-back incredible saves at the nine-minute mark in the first half, keeping Marist's deficit at just three, and Mehalick capitalized in transition to bring the score to 5-3.
- Army closed the half on a 3-1 run and took an 8-4 lead into halftime.
- The Black Knights outscored the Red Foxes 8-0 in the second half, and went on to win 16-4.
- Mehalick led the Red Foxes with two goals. She added a draw control and a caused turnover.
- Rothman and Devon Connolly scored the other two goals for the Red Foxes.
- Melissa Bucher and Romy Villemure each had three ground balls to lead Marist.
- Caroline Raymond had a game-high five goals for Army.
- Maddie Burns had a .636 save percentage in the net for the Black Knights.
