BUFFALO, New York – After three days of competition at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships, both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams are sitting in second place. The women are just 20 points behind leader Fairfield, trailing 419-399. The men have a little bit of a deeper hole, trailing nine-time defending champion Rider 479.5-331.
Today's events included the 400-yard IM, 100-yard fly, 200-yard free, 100-yard breast, 100-yard back, and women's 3-meter dive, along with the 400-yard medley relay. In total, Marist had 15 student-athletes compete in today's final events. Prelim Results can be found at the bottom of the recap.
- Sidney Judson continued her dominant meet, placing second in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:53.43. She is now placed first and second in two events so far in the competition.
- Esabelle Gervasio claimed second place in the 3-meter dive, scoring 262.25, which was just 2.30 points behind first place. Madison Sweeney and Grace Reeves placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
- Juliet Nowak set a school record with a time of 55.64 in the 100-yard back, and finished in third place for Marist. Veronica Stureborg was right behind her in sixth place.
- In the first competition of the night, Jordyn Deubel and Jessica Miller finished fourth and fifth in the 400-yard IM, with times of 4:33.48, and 4:35.41, respectively.
- Maggie Lasto makes her first finals appearance as a Red Fox, and finishes with a time of 1:06.19 in the 100-yard breast, good for seventh place. 4
- The women finished strong, taking third place in the 400-yard medley relay. The team consisted of Nowak, Lasto, Stureborg, and Georgeanne Zimmerman.
- Jackson Klarsfeld and Adam Kapusta finished second and third, respectively, in the men's 400-yard IM. Klarsfeld clocked in at 3:58.27, and Kapusta finished at 3:58.36 in the men's first event of the day, and it seemed to spark a huge day for both Red Fox squads.
- Pavel Makarchuk finished with a school-record time of 49.27 in the 100-yard fly, placing sixth place overall.
- Ante Dany took sixth place in the 200-yard free, clocking in with a time of 1:40.78.
- Sean Doran and Ahmed Sallam finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 100-yard back. Sallam finished .12 second behind Doran, who finished with a time of 50.31.
- The men wrapped up the day with a fourth place finish, and school record, in the 400-yard medley relay. The team of Doran, Klarsfeld, Makarchul, and Sallam clocked in at 3:19.49.
- So far we have had two MAAC Champions.
- Gervasio won the gold medal in the 1-meter dive on day one with a score of 283.05.
- Judson won the gold medal in the 500-yard free on day two with a time of 4:59.67.
The fourth and final day of the MAAC Championships kicks off tomorrow at 10 a.m. The finals for the last of the events will take place at 6 p.m. The events include: 200-yard back, 100-yard free, 200-yard breast, 200-yard fly, the men's 1-meter dive, and the women's 400-yard free relay.
- Jordyn Deubel and Jessica Miller kicked off the day in grand style, finishing second and third respectively in the 400-yard IM, earning a spot in the finals. Heather Hartmann just missed out by .4 seconds, taking ninth place.
- All three Red Fox divers advanced to the finals later tonight in the 3-meter diving event. Esabelle Gervasio led the way with 236.55 points, and Grace Reeves (226.75) and Madison Sweeney (209.85) took third and fifth place, respectively.
- Sidney Judson followed up last night's MAAC Championship winning performance in the 500-yard free with a third-place finish in today's 200-yard free, advancing to the finals with a time of 1:53.73.
- Megan Lasto finished in sixth place in the 100-yard breast, with a time 1:05.74.
- Juliet Nowak and Victoria Stureborg wrapped up today's women's prelims, qualifying for the finals in the 100-yard back.
- The men had a good start to the day, as Adam Kapusta and Jackson Klarsfeld both qualified for the finals in the first men's event, the 400-yard IM, clocking in at times of 4:00.90 and 4:01.37, respectively.
- Pavel Makarchuk took the eighth and final spot in the finals in the 100-yard fly, edging out the ninth-place finisher by .06 seconds.
- Ante Dany qualified for the finals in the 200-yard free, coming in seventh in the prelims with a time of 1:40.45 and will have a chance at a gold medal tonight.
- Ahmed Sallam and Sean Doran wrapped up today's prelims by qualifying for the finals in the 100-yard back, each registering a time of 50.26 which was tied for sixth place.
