Rebekah Hand Named MAAC Player of the Week

Senior Captain Averaged 23.3 Points Per Game In 3-0 Week

EDISON, New Jersey – Marist Women's Basketball senior captain Rebekah Hand has been named the MAAC Player of the Week for the week of February 17, the conference announced on Monday afternoon.

The guard picks up her second Player of the Week award in her career and her first since November 26, 2018. It is the second weekly award for a Red Fox this season after Alana Gilmer won for the week of January 13.

Hand led the team in scoring during a 3-0 week that helped Marist clinch its 15th 20-win in program history. She averaged 23.3 points per game and 4.7 assists per game on 56.8 percent shooting.

On Tuesday, February 11, Hand led the Red Foxes with 20 points, 10 of them coming from the free throw line, and posted five rebounds and five assists in a 63-58 win over Rider that put Marist on top in the MAAC standings. She followed up that performance with 18 points, seven assists, and zero turnovers in the Red Foxes' 86-72 victory over Canisius on Thursday, February 13.

In arguably the best game of her Marist career, Hand dropped a career-high tying 32 points with an 82.4 percent shooting clip to vault the Red Foxes over Siena 78-55 on Sunday, February 16. The 32 points are tied for 10th-most in a single game by a Red Fox, while the 14 baskets falls one shy of the single-game program record.

This season, Hand is achieving career-highs with 18.0 points per game, a .527 field goal percentage, a .406 percentage from beyond the arc, and 3.2 assists per game. She ranks second in the MAAC in scoring average, field goal percentage, and three-point percentage. Her 2.4 assist/turnover ratio in MAAC play is tied with teammate Grace Vander Weide for best in the conference.

Nationally, Hand ranks in the top 50 in points per game, field goals made, free throw percentage, and three-point percentage. She is currently the Division I active leader with a career 88.5 free throw percentage.

Marist looks to win its seventh game in a row when it treks to Saint Peter's on Thursday, February 20 at 7 p.m.
