Women’s Basketball Set For Fairfield Clash

Red Foxes And Stags Sit Second And Third In MAAC

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist Women's Basketball looks to extend its winning streak to eight games when it faces off against Fairfield, the last team to beat the Red Foexs, on Monday, February 24 at 7 p.m. from McCann Arena.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Red Foxes outscored Saint Peter's 42-23 in the second half and shot 50.9 percent, the 12th time at 50 percent or better, to down the Peacocks 82-60 on Thursday, February 20 at the Yanitelli Center.
  • Rebekah Hand surpassed 20 points for the ninth time this season and the third time in her last four games with 26 points on 7-9 shooting, including four three-pointers and a perfect 8-8 effort on free throws.
  • Alana Gilmer scored 20 points for the third consecutive game.
  • Grace Vander Weide (14 points, eight rebounds, five assists) and Willow Duffell (12 points, seven rebounds) also reached double figures.
 
SCOUTING FAIRFIELD
  • The Stags head into the contest in third place in the MAAC at 10-5, with an overall record of 13-11.
  • On Saturday, February 22, Fairfield beat Quinnipiac 72-60 at home. Lou Lopez-Senechal, averaging a team-best 14.9 points per game, poured in 26 points in the win.
  • Prior to the victory, the Stags had lost three of four.
  • Katie Armstrong (14 points per game) and Sam Kramer (10 points per game) are the other Stags with a double-digit scoring average.
  • Heading into Sunday, Fairfield is first in the MAAC with just 54.7 points allowed in conference play.
 
WE MEET AGAIN
  • Marist seeks revenge on Fairfield after the Stags came out on top 52-48 back on January 30 in Connecticut.
  • The Red Foxes have not lost since that game.
  • In that contest, which featured the league's top offensive team (Marist) against the best defensive team (Fairfield), the Stags utilized a 19-7 second quarter to erase an early Red Fox lead.
  • Rebekah Hand had a game-high 18 points, while Vander Weide posted 10 points, eight boards, and five assists.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Monday marks the 57th meeting all-time between Marist and Fairfield.
  • The Red Foxes have the 36-20 edge in the rivalry, and have won 10 of their last 12 over Fairfield.
