POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist women's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, as the Red Foxes downed the Binghamton Bearcats, 17-7.
Samantha Mehalick exploded for seven goals in the game, matching Binghamton's team output with her goals alone.
Delaney Galvin notched 17 saves in the crease, helping lead Marist's defense to its best performance of the season.
With the win, the Red Foxes improve to 1-4 on the year, and 1-1 at Tenney Stadium. Meanwhile, The Bearcats fall to 1-4 in 2020.Â

- Binghamton got on the board first, as Paige Volkmann found the back of the net to put the Bearcats in front, 1-0. Carly Grant had an answer nearly 20 seconds later, and evened up the score at 1-1.
- The Bearcats would again go in front 2-1, but Mehalick fired back-to-back goals to put the Red Foxes in front 3-2.
- Mehalick's goals were the catalyst of a 6-0 Marist run, that brought the lead to 7-2. Devon Connolly scored the final three goals of the run for an early first half hat trick.
- The Bearcats answered the run with teo quick goals, but the Red Foxes quickly shutdown the Binghamton comeback attempt. They scored the final five goals of the half, capped by an Alexandra Di Chiara goal off a beautiful find from Kelly George, and took a 12-4 lead into the halftime locker room.
- Binghamton scored three of the first four goal of the second half to trim Marist's lead to just six at the 17:44 mark of the second half, but the Bearcats' hopes were ended right there
- The stout Red Fox defense held Binghamton scoreless the rest of the game, and ended the second half on a 4-0 run, with the final three goals coming from Mehalick to cap a seven-goal performance.
- Marist went on to win 17-7.

- Mehalick's seven goals were a game-high, and she also added two ground balls.
- Connolly and Grant each scored four goals in the win. Connolly also added an assist for five total points.
- Jana Rothman and Di Chiara had Marist's other two goals.
- George had a game-high five assists. Di Chiara added three assists as well.
- Romy Villemure had a game-high three caused turnovers and a team-high four draw controls and three ground balls. Rothman and Sheridan DeVito each added two caused turnovers.
- Delaney Galvin turned away 17 shots in the game.
- Alyssa Sanchez led Binghamton with three goals.
- The Red Foxes held the advantage on the draw, 14-12. Marist also had a slight edge in shots, 34-33.

- The Red Foxes are now 13-1 all-time against Binghamton, with the only loss coming in double-overtime back in 2012.
- With her fourth assist of the game, George moved into sole possession of sixth place on the program's all-time assists list.
- Grant's four goals were the first four goals of the season for the senior attack, and they also marked a new career-high.
- Connolly's four goals were also a new career-high.
- Di Chiara's three assists marked her career-high as a Red Fox.
- DeVito set a new career-high with her two caused turnovers.
