Women’s Basketball Visits Iona Tuesday Morning

Red Foxes And Gaels Meet For First Time This Season

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Playing its third game in a span of six days, Marist Women's Basketball faces Iona on Tuesday, February 4 at 11 a.m.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Red and White outscored Niagara 27-7 in the third quarter in an 82-57 victory at McCann Arena on Saturday, February 1.
  • Alana Gilmer led the way with 23 points on 11-17 shooting, along with nine rebounds. It was her eighth MAAC game this season where she hit 50 percent or more of her shots.
  • Rebekah Hand notched her fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds. She moved into second all-time in career field goals in the process.
  • Marist grabbed a season-high tying 43 rebounds and assisted on 26 of their 35 baskets.
 
SCOUTING IONA
  • The Gaels are 4-13 on the season and 3-5 in conference play. The team most recently fell to Manhattan and Quinnipiac.
  • This year at Hynes Center, Iona is just 1-7.
  • Morgan Rachu leads the Gaels with 12.5 points per game, though her last appearance came on January 16. Shyan Mwai is Iona's other player averaging double figures at 10.3 points.
  • Iona has combined for eight conference wins in the past two-plus seasons.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Tuesday marks the 54th meeting all-time between the Red Foxes and the Gaels.
  • Marist holds the 40-13 advantage in a rivalry that dates back to 1983.
  • From January 2, 2002 to March 11, 2013, the Red and White won 29 consecutive games.
  • In the only matchup between the teams last season, Marist routed Iona 76-36 in Poughkeepsie on January 21, 2019.
 
CLASSROOM EXCELLENCE
  • Marist Women's Basketball recorded the top team GPA among women's athletics programs during the Fall 2019 semester.
  • Ten Red Foxes earned a GPA of at least 3.5 of higher, while two registered a 4.0.
