Hannah Hand Goes For Season-High 15 Points

NEW ROCHELLE, New York - Senior guard Hannah Hand dropped a season-best 15 points, three other Red Foxes scored in double figures, and Marist Women's Basketball used a 28-point lead after three quarters as cushion for a 73-56 victory over Iona on Tuesday afternoon at the Hynes Athletic Center.

The Red and White boost their MAAC record to 9-2 on the season, improving to 16-4 overall. The Gaels fall to 3-6 against conference foes and 4-14 overall.

Redshirt senior captain Alana Gilmer led the way with 16 points on 7-11 shooting. Fellow captain Rebekah Hand chipped in 12 points for her 100th-career game with 10 or more points, and junior forward Willow Duffell notched 11 points. Redshirt senior captain Grace Vander Weide recorded her fifth double-double with 12 assists and 10 rebounds.

Shyan Mwai paced Iona with 14 points. She was one of three Gaels in double figures.

  • That started a 15-1 run through the next 3:53 for the Red Foxes. Hannah Hand scored eight of them on two triples. Gilmer and Rebekah Hand added buckets as well.
  • At the 6:52 mark of the second quarter, junior guard Allie Best knocked down a left-wing three-pointer to push the Marist lead to 30-16.
  • Iona cut its deficit to single digits with a quick 5-0 spurt, but the Hand twins teamed up to score the next six points in 1:13.

  • Rebekah Hand cashed in on a layup to open the third quarter, starting an 11-0 run over 3:44 to push the advantage to 53-26.
  • With four minutes to play in the third, Gilmer nailed a high-post jumper for her first basket since 8:34 in the second. That led to a 7-0 Red Fox push capped by a Best three to make it 60-31 a minute after Gilmer's bucket.
  • Iona opened the fourth with a three, but Marist went on a 9-0 run. Duffell highlighted the push with an old-fashioned three-point play.
