Women's Basketball Begins Final Homestand With Iona

Red Foxes Aim For 10th Straight Win In Fight For No. 1 Seed

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist Women's Basketball looks for its first 10-game winning streak since 2013-14 when it faces off against Iona on Thursday, March 5 at 7 p.m. at McCann Arena.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Red Foxes held Quinnipiac to 29.5 percent shooting to down the Bobcats 64-51 on Saturday, February 29 at the People's United Center.
  • Grace Vander Weide led Marist with 21 points, nine rebounds, and three steals while shooting 6-11 from the field. 
  • Alana Gilmer contributed 16 points to go along with eight rebounds.
  • Rebekah Hand stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, seven assists, and six rebounds.
  • Willow Duffell added nine points and six rebounds.
 
SCOUTING IONA
  • The Gaels head into the contest tied for sixth place in the MAAC at 8-10, with an overall record of 9-18.
  • In their last matchup on Monday March 2, Iona fell to Manhattan 59-47. Morgan Rachu led the Gaels with 18 points on the game.
  • Iona has two players averaging double figures this season with Rachu at 12.1 points per game and Juana Camilion at 11.6 points per game.

  • Marist defeated Iona 73-56 on February 4 at the Hynes Center.
  • Gilmer led the Red Foxes with 16 points on 7-11 shooting.
  • Hannah Hand had a season-high in points with 15 points on 6-8 shooting.

SERIES HISTORY
  • Monday marks the 55th meeting all-time between Marist and Iona.
  • The Red Foxes have the 41-13 edge, and have won the last four matchups against the Gaels.
 
SEEDING SCENARIOS
  • Marist has clinched a top two seed in the upcoming MAAC Tournament, meaning their quarterfinal matchup will be on Wednesday March 11 in Atlantic City.
  • The Red Foxes are tied with the Rider Broncs at 16-2 in the standings, with Rider holding the tie-breaker advantage due to a better record against the higher-ranked teams (Rider was 2-0 vs. fourth place Fairfield, Marist was 1-1).
  • Marist will need to pick up a game over Rider in order to obtain the No. 1 seed.
