Marist Women's Basketball Tops Manhattan

Marist Off To Best Start Since 2008-09

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Senior captain Willow Duffell had her third double-double of the season, with 10 points and 10 rebounds, making two huge buckets late as the Red Foxes prevailed in a tough 50-46 win to complete the sweep over Manhattan on Sunday evening at McCann Arena.

Marist improves to 7-1 for the third time in history and the first time since the 2008-09 season, and is 5-1 in the MAAC. Manhattan falls to 5-5 on the year, and 5-3 against conference foes.

Duffell scored the last seven points for Marist, including the go-ahead bucket with 49 seconds left. Manhattan guard Dee Dee Davis netted two free throws to go up by one with 1:17 left in the fourth quarter as part of a 15-point comeback for the Jaspers. Marist then took the ball down the court, and freshman forward Caitlin Weimar snagged an offensive rebound, dishing to Duffell for a free throw line jumper. That put Marist up 47-46.

With less than 15 seconds left, and late on the shot clock, Duffell drove to the hoop, sinking a left block layup and fighting through the foul by a Jasper defender. Duffell then completed the three-point play at the foul line to complete
