last time out
  • Marist sweeped preseason MAAC favorite Manhattan on Saturday, January 9th and Sunday, January 10th at McCann Arena.
  • On Saturday, senior captain Allie Best scored a career-high 17 points and tied her personal bests with eight rebounds and four three-pointers in a 52-44 victory.
  • Classmate Willow Duffell recorded her third double-double of the year and scored Marist's final seven points of Sunday's game, leading to a 50-46 triumph.
  • Sophomore guard Trinasia Kennedy scored 11 points in both games, leading the Red Foxes on Sunday.
  • Manhattan led for just 1:54 of the 80 minutes over the weekend, as Marist's defense limited them to a 28 percent shooting clip.

smart foxes
  • Earlier this week, the team released its Fall 2020 GPA, 3.81.
  • That mark was best among Marist's women's programs, and was .01 shy of the top spot in the athletic department.

start your engines
  • The Red Foxes tied its program record with five straight wins to start the season.
  • Marist has achieved that feat in three consecutive seasons, a program first.
  • The 7-1 start has happened twice prior to this year, in 2007-08 and 2008-09. In both seasons, the Red Foxes won the MAAC title.

spread the wealth
  • Through eight games this year, Marist has had five different players lead the team in scoring:
  • Last year, the Red Foxes had four different high scorers in 30 games played.

defend the den
  • After holding the Jaspers to under 30 percent shooting as well as 50 points and less twice, Marist extended its streak of holding teams under 40 percent from the field to nine games, dating back to last season's MAAC Quarterfinals.
  • The Red Foxes have not allowed more than 61 points in a game this season.
  • Across Division I, Marist ranks seventh in scoring defense at 50.9 points allowed. Of the six teams ahead of the Red Foxes, only two have played more games (Baylor: nine; Milwaukee, 12).
  • Marist is also 11th in the nation with a 32.7 field goal percentage defense. Only Baylor, Stanford, Milwaukee, and Rice rank ahead of and have played more contests than the Red Foxes.

point guard prowess
  • This weekend features the conference's and the nation's best point guards in two categories:
    • Allie Best maintains her NCAA lead with a 7.5 assist/turnover ratio.
    • Fairfield's Rachel Hakes dishes out Division I-best 8.8 assists per game.

scouting the stags
  • Fairfield is 5-1 on the season, and is the only undefeated MAAC team that has played a conference game this year (4-0).
  • The Stags have swept Siena and Rider in their last four games. However, those are the only games Fairfield has played since December 11th.
  • Preseason MAAC Player of the Year Lou Lopez-Senechal (MAAC-best 18.2 points per game, NCAA-leading 61.3 three-point percentage), Sam Lewis (14.8 points per game, NCAA-leading 4.17 three-pointers per game), and Preseason All-MAAC First Team pick Katie Armstrong (12.3 points per game, team-best 7.7 rebounds per game) are Fairfield's leading scorers.
  • As a team, the Stags are first in the MAAC in scoring at 67.5 points per game and second with 55 points per game allowed. Marist is second and first in the conference in those categories, respectively.

series history
  • The all-time series favors Marist 37-20, making these the 58th and 59th meetings.
  • Marist's first game vs. the Stags took place in their first season as a Division I program in 1981-82. The Red Foxes nabbed the 73-70 victory.
  • Last year, the teams each won at home. Fairfield earned a 52-48 win at Alumni Hall on January 30th, 2020 (Marist's last loss before their 17-game winning streak). The Red Foxes got revenge in a 75-45 triumph at McCann Arena on February 24th.
  • Marist's last five wins over the Stags have an average margin of victory just over 20 points.
  • Duffell has averaged eight points and 6.7 rebounds in her career against Fairfield.

looking ahead
  • Following this weekend's series, the Red Foxes travel to Niagara on Friday, January 22nd and Saturday, January 23rd. Both games are slated for 4 p.m.
