Women’s Basketball Stumbles At Fairfield

Kennedy Scores Career-High 26 Points In Loss

FAIRFIELD, Connecticut – Sophomore guard Trinasia Kennedy unloaded a career-best 26 points on 5-of-7 shooting from three-point range, but Fairfield ended the game on a 9-1 run to complete a 15-point comeback and capture a 61-58 win over Marist on Saturday evening from Alumni Hall.

The Red Foxes stumble to 6-2 in the MAAC, and 8-2 overall. The Stags now sit a game ahead of Marist for first place in the conference at 5-1, and are 6-2 this season.

Kennedy became the first Red Fox since Lovisa Henningsdottir in March of 2019 to hit five three-pointers in a game. The Binghamton, NY product already set a career-high with 16 points in the first half as the Red Foxes sported a 37-30 lead after two quarters.

Marist was on top 47-32 with 3:31 to play in the third quarter, and had a 57-52 advantage with 2:32 remaining in the contest. However, after an Andrea Hernangomez layup, Lou Lopez-Senechal scored four quick points to give Fairfield a 58-57 lead with 49.3 seconds to go.

Following a 1-for-2 trip to the foul line for Kennedy, Lopez-Senechal got a friendly bounce on an off-balance shot from the right below to give the Stags the lead for good with 2.8 seconds left.

Senior captain Allie Best totaled 11 points and seven assists, while classmate Willow Duffell had a game-high nine rebounds.

Lopez-Senechal paced the Stags with 16 points, while Katie Armstrong and Callie Cavanaugh added 10 points each.
