LAWRENCEVILLE, New Jersey – Senior forward
Victoria Colatosti scored her first goal of the season to tie the game, but Rider scored in the 103rd minute during double overtime to carry the Broncs over Marist 2-1 on Wednesday evening in the Garden State.
The Red Foxes fall to 3-3-1 in MAAC play and 4-5-2 overall. Rider improves to 3-3-1 in the conference and 5-6-2 in 2021.
Every goal came after halftime. Hannah Freeman opened the scoring for the home team in the 53rd minute to put Rider ahead 1-0. However, sophomore midfielder
Chance Hendricks fed Colatosti for the equalizer just 49 seconds later.
The score remained the same through the rest of the second half and the first overtime period. It wasn't until the 103rd minute that Chloe Fisher ended the game.
Colatosti led the Red Foxes with three shots, two of which were on goal. Senior goalkeeper
Natalie Kelchner tallied eight saves in net.
Fisher's four shots were a game-high. Ellie Sciancalepore made five saves between the pipes.
- Each side traded a shot on goal in the first 3:04. Camryn Dees' attempt was denied by Kelchner, while freshman Autumn Smith couldn't get a shot by Sciancalepore.
- Sophomore midfielder Amanda Caldarelli had two chances beginning in the 14th minute. Her first shot required a save from Sciancalepore that led to a corner kick. Ninety seconds later, she whipped a shot wide right of the goal.
- Marist continued to threaten with three shots in four minutes towards the end of the frame. Freshman defender Bella Lazzaro shot wide left, Smith was turned away once again, and sophomore forward Grace DiVincenzo was unable to beat Sciancalepore.
- Kelchner made a save on Lindsey Maslow in the 49th minute, only for the Bronc to assist on Freeman's goal 4:18 later.
- In the 57th minute, Marist earned a corner kick, eventually leading to a shot from redshirt senior defender Britt Van Lenten that was off the mark.
- Kelchner added saves on Dees in the 65th minute and Cameron Santers two minutes later.
- She then made back-to-back denials Makenzie Rodrigues and Madison Maguire within nine seconds in the 74th minute.
- Both teams had a chance to score the game-winner in the final three minutes, but Colatosti lofted the ball over the crossbar, and Fisher was denied via Kelchner.
- Rider's only shot in the first period was in the 94th minute, an Ailis Martin blast over the bar.
- Colatosti had the best opportunity with 1:18 in the stanza, but Sciancalepore was there for the save.
- Kelchner stopped Maslow in the 102nd minute.
- Both teams combined for 31 shots in the game. Rider had the edge 18-13, and 10-6 in shots on goal.
- Corner kicks favored Marist 7-3. Neither team had a corner after regulation.
- Each team had just one yellow card.
- Possession favored Marist 52-48 percent. The Red Foxes spent 61 percent of their possession in the attacking zone.
- Colatosti scored for the first time since her brace in the MAAC Quarterfinals against Quinnipiac on November 3rd, 2019.
- Hendricks earned her first-career assist.
- Kelchner now has seven games this year with at least five saves.
- Wednesday marked just the first time all year the Red Foxes allowed more than one goal in a game, a span of 11 games. Marist still has yet to allow more than one goal in regulation this season.
- Rider has now won consecutive games against the Red Foxes following Marist's six-game unbeaten streak in the rivalry.
