POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women's soccer team opens the 2021 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship on Sunday, when the Red Foxes travel to Quinnipiac for quarterfinal round action. Kickoff is set for noon, and the match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Red Foxes (5-6-3 overall, 4-4-2 MAAC) enter the championship as the #7 seed. Quinnipiac (12-4, 7-3) is the #2 seed.
The winner advances to the semifinal round, which will take place on Thursday, Nov. 4. The championship match is set for Sunday, Nov. 7. The entire championship will be played at campus sites, with the better seed hosting each contest.
- The Red Foxes have held their opponent to zero or one goal in 12 of their 14 matches this season.
- Quinnipiac and Marist are the only two teams in the MAAC to allow fewer goals than matches played (Quinnipiac, 11 goals against in 16 matches; Marist, 13 goals against in 14 matches).
- Marist and Quinnipiac met on Oct. 2 in the regular season, with the Bobcats prevailing 1-0 in double overtime. Rebecca Cooke scored in the 105th minute for the Bobcats. Natalie Kelchner stopped eight shots for the Red Foxes.
- Kelchner led the MAAC in save percentage in the regular season (.871). She also ranked second in goals against (0.87), tied for second in clean sheets (four), and third in saves per game (6.29).
- Marist has won one MAAC championship in its history, in 2011. The Red Foxes also reached the final in 2001 and 2012.
