Women's Rowing Wraps Up Fall Competition

Red Foxes Nab First Place in Varsity 8

Marist Women's Rowing traveled to Ridgefield, NJ's Overpeck Park this past weekend to compete at the NYRA Fall Invitational (2000m) as its final competition of the fall season.

Manhattan College coach Alex Canale hosted a great regatta which included crews from Lehigh, St. Joes, UConn, Loyola, Fairfield, Manhattan and Marist. The race was set up such that the top 2 in each of 2 heats would race in the "A" final in the afternoon while 3rd and 4th in each heat would race in the "B" final.

The 1st Varsity consisted of coxswain(s) (Olivia Siyahian) (Katie Moody), Summer Starrett, Lydia Giguere, Natalia Miklos, Gabrielle Insero, Kassandra Nicholson, Avalon Johnson, Caroline Voorhis and Ashley Surette. The crew raced well in the heat and ended the morning session with the fastest time of 6:54.  In the final, this crew raced hard and sprinted across the finish line out in front to win the inaugural NYRA Fall Invitational Varsity 8 event.   Final Results:  Marist 6:52.004, FFD 6:54.835, St. Joes, 6:59.754, Lehigh 7:00.255.

The 2nd Varsity consisted of coxswain(s) (Olivia Siyahian) (Katie Moody), Casey Hodge, Juliet Kirk, Chrissy Schone, Gennevieve Anderson, Lauren Muhr, Liv Nasternak, Jennfier Liguori and Hilary Anderson.  This boat had two hard fought races and came up a length short in both.  Although the lineup felt it had improved upon the first 500m of the race between the heat and the final, the margin between 1st place FFD and 2nd place Marist was just about the same as in the heat.  Final Results:  FFD 7:10.032, Marist 7:14.414, Lehigh 7:21.645, UConn 7:35.825.

The 3rd Varsity consisted of coxswain (Phoebe Castellanno) (Abigail Cieplinski), Francesca D'Ugo, Victoria Hamilton, Jessica Zygmunt, Molly O' Donoghue, Rebecca Paul, Allie Steingold, (Colleen Bernhard) (Emma Spiro) and Emily Liguori.  Of all of the events, the heats for the 3V produced the closest qualifying times for the final in the afternoon.  During the final, UConn and Marist each experienced some early season adversity which prevented them from maintaining contact with the two lead crews.  Final Results:  St. Joes 7:32.654, FFD 7:36.621, UConn 7:51.400, Marist 7:53.433.

The team will now transition to winter land training after the Thanksgiving holiday break.
