Women’s Basketball Falls to Columbia

Fisher Scores Team-High 19

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women's basketball team fell to the Ivy League's Columbia by a score of 78-49 on Sunday afternoon at McCann Arena.
 
Summary
  • Marist battled in the first quarter, struggling offensively for the first five minutes as Columbia built a 7-0 lead. With 5:28 left in the 1st quarter, Kiara Fisher was fouled and nailed both free throws to put the Red Foxes on the board.
  • A three-pointer by Emma Wax and a steal and bucket by Zaria Shazer enabled the Red Foxes to start the second quarter with some momentum and cut down the lead to 25-19 midway through the second quarter.
  • Fisher's layup on Marist's final possession of the first half made the score 29-23 in favor of Columbia going into halftime. 
  • Columbia outscored Marist 22-5 in the third quarter, and led 51-28 after 30 minutes.
  • Columbia's largest lead was 32.

  • Kiara Fisher led Marist with 19 points. She shot 6-for-15 from the field and 6-for-7 from the free-throw line, and added four rebounds and two assists.
  • Samantha Bailey led Marist with eight rebounds. 
  • Columbia's Kaitlyn Davis led the Lions with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Columbia held a 58-34 rebounding advantage, and shot 11-for-35 (.314) from three while Marist shot 4-20 (.200).

  • Bailey's eight rebounds were a career high.
  • This was Marist's first matchup with Columbia since 2002.
