Marist Captures Valentine’s Day Victory At Siena

Barcello’s 14, Duffell’s Double-Double Lead To 12th MAAC Win

LOUDONVILLE, New York – Junior guard Sarah Barcello registered a team-high 14 points, senior captain Willow Duffell recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Marist completed the series sweep over Siena with a 60-44 triumph on Valentine's Day at the UHY Center.

The Red Foxes improve to a MAAC-best 12 conference wins, and are 14-2 overall. The Saints fall to 2-5 on the season with an identical conference record.

Marist set the tone early, limiting Siena to two points in the first quarter to build a 20-2 advantage. The Saints stayed in it in the middle frames, however, and got to within six points late in the third. However, the Red Foxes shot 46 percent in the fourth quarter to pull away.

Senior captain Allie Best had eight points and three assists, moving into sole possession of 10th place all-time with 324 career assists at Marist. Junior guard Kendall Krick scored all eight of her points in the second half and racked up three rebounds and three steals.

Ashley Williamson notched a game-high 15 points, while Lala Watts earned 13 points for the Saints.

  • That stretch improved to an 18-0 over 9:03 to the end of the first quarter, as Siena missed 10 straight shots.
  • The Red Foxes extended the lead to 26-6 after a Weimar block led to a transition layup for Barcello, then a Best three-pointer.
  • Siena erased some of the deficit with a trio of threes, including two from Williamson.
  • Duffell snagged an offensive rebound and put it back to go into double digits and give Marist a 34-18 lead with 1:27 until halftime.
  • After taking a 34-20 edge into the third quarter, the Saints got to within eight after a Watts layup.

  • Amari Anthony's three cut the lead to seven, but Marist ignited a 13-3 run after that.
  • With 6:39 to play, Krick had consecutive three-point plays, cutting through the lane and drawing a foul for a conventional play, then burying a left-wing three.
