Willow Duffell led all scorers with 15 points, and freshman forward
Caitlin Weimar added eight rebounds and a career-high four blocks, including two in the final 21 seconds to lift Marist over Rider 47-46 on Sunday afternoon at McCann Arena.

The Red Foxes boost their MAAC record to 9-2, and are 11-2 on the season. The Broncs drop to 4-11 against conference foes and 5-15 overall.

Both teams shined on defense, as neither side shot better than 38 percent nor scored more than 20 points in a quarter.

Rider had a 44-41 lead with 4:02 to go in the fourth quarter, but Marist went on a 6-0 run, capped with a left elbow jumper from Weimar that put the Red Foxes on top 47-44 with 1:11 left.

Makayla Firebaugh, the reigning MAAC Player and Rookie of the Week, drained two free throws to cut Marist's lead to one. However, in the final 40 seconds of play, Duffell forced a heldball turnover from Victoria Toomey, and Weimar blocked two attempts from Maya Hyacienth and Daija Moses, the latter of whom could not get a foul line jumper to leave her hands with two seconds remaining.

Sarah Barcello had six points on 50 percent shooting and six boards.

- Marist jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first 6:02 of the game, with four different scorers.
- Rider responded with eight straight points out of the media timeout, holding the Foxes at nine points for the final 5:09 of the first quarter.
- The Broncs took their first lead and extended it to 13-9 before the Red Foxes broke their scoring drought. Sophomore guard Trinasia Kennedy picked Firebaugh's pocket, and Barcello hit a right elbow jumper with 7:17 on the clock in the second quarter.
- With 1:10 until halftime, Duffell sped through the lane and made the floater while drawing a foul, leading to a three-point play that cut Marist's deficit to 15-14, which held true to the break.
- On Marist's first third-quarter possession, Marist's co-captains connected as Best fed Willow for a baseline jumper to put the home team ahead 16-15.
- After Duffell knocked down the Red Foxes' first three shots of the stanza, Best drilled the squad's first three-pointer of the game for a 23-18 edge.
- The Red Fox lead was as high as 27-21 for Marist, but Rider rattled off a quick 9-3 run to tie the contest at 30 with 1:32 left in the third.
- Each team leapfrogged one another heading into the fourth quarter, though an 8-2 Broncs spurt put the visitors on top 42-37 with 6:30 to play.
- Barcello scored two layups in two minutes to push the deficit to one approaching the four-minute mark.
- Duffell stepped into a Rider pass and corralled the loose ball, and Allie Best's lead pass for junior guard Kendall Krick's layup gave Marist the 45-44 lead with just over three minutes remaining. Marist would not relinquish the lead from that point.
- Neither team scored more than 10 points in the first quarters, and both sides combined for just one three-pointer in that span.
- The Red Foxes were held to a season low 21.8 percent shooting clip in the opening 20 minutes, but improved to 46 percent in the second half.
- Rider had the narrow edge in rebounding at 35-34, but Marist had 15 offensive boards to the Broncs' nine.
- Duffell also had a career-high five steals, as the Red Foxes forced 19 Rider turnovers.
- Both teams had 59 possessions and nine made free throws. Marist had one more field goal than Rider, though the latter made one more three than the former.
- Forty-four of the game's 93 points were scored in the paint.
- Duffell reached double figures for the 28th time in her career, and has done so eight times this season. It is the third time in 2020-21 she has led Marist in points.
- This is the sixth time this season Best has not turned the ball over, and the second game in a row. In all of those games, she has dished out four or more assists. In addition, she has hit a three-pointer in nine consecutive games, the best stretch in her career.
- Weimar has six games this year with multiple blocks.
- The Red Foxes are 7-1 this year when Barcello plays.
- Marist is 6-0 at McCann Arena this season. The team has not lost at home since January 16th, 2020 against Rider, a span of 13 games as well as 388 days.
- The all-time series now favors Marist 47-18.
- As part of Black History Month, the program celebrated Black excellence by highlighting two trailblazers in Black history: Serena Williams and Sojourner Truth. In addition, Sunday's broadcast spotlighted Essie's Restaurant, a local Black-owned business in Poughkeepsie.
- Duffell and Head Coach Brian Giorgis met with the media after Sunday's win.
